How it works

Accutane reduces the amount of oil produced by the skin that leads to hardening of the skin surface.

Guidelines for Usage

Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or as mentioned in the instruction booklet/product label.

Always use only as prescribed. Never exceed the dosage.

The capsule is to be taken twice a day with a full glass of water, milk or any non alcoholic beverage. Take care that you swallow the capsule whole without breaking, crushing or chewing it unless you have been advised accordingly.

Doctors recommend that you swallow the whole tablet/capsules with a glass of water unless it is specified that it can be broken or chewed.

NOTE: Use only if prescribed to you and intended for your use. Do not share with others.

Accutane must be used in a cycle with a 2 month rest period after using the drug. Even during this off period, your acne will continue to get better. And after the 2 month rest period, if you still have severe acne, then inform your doctor who may prescribe a second course of treatment or a longer rest period.

Missed Dose

It is common for people to forget their dosage times and miss doses.

Do not panic if you have missed a dose.

Instead, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Do not double up or take more than what the doctor has prescribed.

How and where do i store Accutane

The medicine label contains detailed instructions regarding safe storage of the medication. Most medicines are best stored at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Some medications may require to be refrigerated. Please check the product label.

Keep it away from the reach of children. Ensure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight or moisture.

Ask your pharmacist about safely disposing off medication that is past expiry date.

Safety Information/ Warning Precautions

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before you start using any new medication.

Ensure that you mention the following:

• Any prior serious ailment, lifestyle disease or surgery
• All the prescription drugs, OTC health supplements, herbal supplements that you are using currently
• Your alcohol intake and whether you smoke or not
• Any history of a known allergic reaction to prescription drugs or food

This will allow your healthcare provider to prescribe the apt dosage of the medication for you.

To be avoided Accutane

You must avoid using Accutane if it you are allergic to any ingredient in it or you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or become pregnant while taking Accutane; you are breast-feeding.

Using Alcohol

is known to cause drowsiness or dizziness. Your vision may be blurred and your judgement affected if you consume alcohol with this medication. So, avoid using alcohol while using the drug.

These effects may also get aggravated due to hot weather or fever or severe exercise. So, be cautious when you stand up after a long time from a sitting or lying position. If you feel giddy then lie down immediately and seek medical help.

Additional Information

Accutane may make your skin more prone to sunburns. So avoid venturing into the sun without proper protection.

You must not donate blood for at least 1 month after using Accutane and even while you are using it.

The acne may worsen during the first few weeks of starting treatment. This is normal. Do not stop the medication.

Your lips may crack or become dry. Use a moisturizing lip balm.

Doctors recommend that you do not undergo any cosmetic procedures to smooth your skin, including waxing, dermabrasion, or laser procedures

If your doctor recommends lab tests, then ensure that you do not miss any appointments.

Use at least 2 different birth control methods while using Accutane.

It is also known to reduce the effectiveness of certain hormonal birth control pills.

Accutane may also affect your blood sugar levels if you are a diabetic patient.

The Drug is categorized under FDA pregnancy category X

Do not use if you are pregnant.

Side Effects

Report the following side effects to your doctor only if they become bothersome or do not stop on their own

· Abnormal hair growth; abnormal skin sensations; bleeding and redness or swelling of the gums;changes in menstrual flow; chapped lips; decreased tolerance to contact lenses; dizziness; dry eyes and mouth; dry nose that may lead to nosebleeds; dry or peeling skin; fatigue; flushing; general body discomfort; hair thinning; headache; itching; lack of energy; nervousness; respiratory tract infection; sleeplessness; sweating; temporary worsening of acne; voice changes.

The following side effects require immediate medical attention. So report these to your doctor immediately.

· Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre, aggressive, or violent behavior; bowel pain; chest pain or pounding in the chest; dark urine; depression; difficult or painful swallowing; difficulty moving; excessive thirst or urination; fainting; fast heartbeat; fever; fractured or weak bones; hearing problems or ringing in the ears; increased pressure in the brain (pressure in the eye; nausea; vision changes; vomiting); joint or back pain; leg swelling; muscle weakness with or without pain; nausea; new or worsening heartburn; rectal bleeding; red patches or bruises on the legs; shortness of breath; seizures; severe birth defects; severe diarrhea; severe headache; skin infection; slurred speech; stomach pain or tenderness; stroke; stunted growth in children; sun sensitivity; swelling of the pancreas (fever; increased heartbeat; nausea; stomach tenderness; vomiting); swollen glands; thoughts of suicide; tightness in the lungs; vision changes; vomiting; weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
